Impressed by the design and specification Corfe Castle Preschool, Dorset County Council approached ARCO₂ Architecture Ltd to provide a design and build the solution for the new Children’s Centre at Swanage, using Ecofab’s prefabricated straw bale system.
Initially working collaboratively with Dorset County Council’s Architect Kelvin Bland and Mechanical Engineer Steve Rufus the 145m2 design provided multi-use rooms and facilities within a highly efficient ecofab building envelope. The building also found strong support with planning authority because of its sensitive, design and siting within the conservation area.
Completed on time and on budget, the building has since become the new benchmark for Dorset County Council in terms of energy performance has received the highest ‘A’ rating for the EPC for any building procured by the Council to date.
