Project
This luxury barn conversion is sited adjacent to an old mill and has been delightfully refurbished and converted to self catering holiday accomodation.
SYMPATHETIC CONVERSION
The building was predominantly constructed of natural stone pointed with lime based mortar. It was important that the new materials used did not detract from the original character of the barns.
DESIGN FEATURES:
- Local grown oak cladding
- Conservation roof lights (flush)
- Modern slate roof
HISTORIC VALUE
The barns were part of a mill complex which dates back to 1720 and remained as a working mill up until the early 18th century. Interestingly the mill is believed to date back to 1400 and the rear garden was used as a meeting place in medieval times.
- Located via a small valley
- Spring fed stream
- Distant views over Fowey
SUSTAINABLE HOLIDAY LETS
To keep the cold out from these beautiful original stone built barns a sustainable approach to the energy needs of the old building was required.
- Extra levels of insulation in the roof and floors
- Underfloor heating distribution
- Solar thermal hot water
