Project

Previously overgrown and unused this site represented a beautiful natural setting providing existing trees, a stream and the opportunity to design within dynamic changes in level.

RIVER SIDE LOCATION

A complex brief with a design challenge. We curated a design around 2 mono pitches to collect views from the river, provide privacy to the neighbouring dwelling and incorporate warming south light into the heart of the home.

DESIGN FEATURES:

  • 2 mono pitched roofs
  • Open plan first floor
  • Stunning river views

DISTINCT LOCAL MATERIALS

External finishes consist of locally sourced pallet of materials which all combine to provide interesting and appreciable facades. Over all, the design nestles delicately within the rustic setting.

DESIGN FEATURES

  • Cedar cladding
  • Natural slate roof
  • Granite and lime rendered walls

SUSTAINABLE FEATURES

Set down in a valley this property benefits from uninterupted south facing sunlight and shelter from the nearby wooded areas. As a sustainable practice we felt strongly that it is important to retain the existing mature trees within the site.

  • Super insulation via natural sheep wool
  • Heating via solar tubes and ground source heat pump
  • Solar gains from south facing windows
