Project
Our client purchased the barn with existing planning approvals in place. However those layouts did not suite his needs nor make best use of a curtilage listed barn. ARCO2 stepped in to create a more open and spacious family home in keeping with the buildings Grade II Listed status.
GRADE II LISTED
ARCO2s priority for this design was to convert the barn in a sympathetic way that would have no detrimental effect to the listed building. To achieve this it meant replacing some of the misguided remidial work that had already taken place.
Challenges:
- Roof replaced with a high collar truss structure with purlins
- Walls re-pointed with a lime based mortar
- Windows and doors to have brick coins and granite lintels
TRADITIONAL INTERIOR DESIGN
The exposed stone walls and natural colour pallette give this barn conversion a cosy, warm and inviting homely feel.
Design Features:
- Stunning exposed beam ceilings
- Natural stone walls
- Hardwood timber doors
LOCALLY SOURCED MATERIALS
It is an important ethos for ARCO2 that all materials are sourced locally as much as possible, not only to reduce carbon emissions but to also make sure the buildings we design stay inkeeping with the local area.
Design Features
- Natural slate roof
- Timber floors
- Clay ridge tiles
