St Tudy, North Cornwall
WETHERHAM LODGE
This property was previously the gate lodge for Wetherham Country House located in the centre of St Tudy.
A CONTEMPORARY HOME CRAFTED FOR FAMILY LIFE
This contemporary home in St Tudy, North Cornwall was carefully redesigned to achieve a higher standard of architecture, material quality and long term performance. Working closely with the clients throughout the process, the project evolved into a refined family home that balances contemporary design with practicality, sustainability and durability.
The revised design introduced improved proportions, better natural light and a stronger relationship between the house and its surrounding landscape. Material choices were carefully considered to create a home that feels calm, robust and connected to its rural Cornish setting.
Attention to detail throughout the project helped create a home with lasting architectural integrity, combining sustainable design principles with comfortable modern living.
We work with clients across the county as experienced architects in Cornwall and trusted North Cornwall architects, creating bespoke contemporary homes tailored to each landscape, lifestyle and setting.
FAMILY HOME
A large feature fireplace is not always helpful. The decision to extend Wetherham Lodge came from the need for more interior spaces as the fireplace made the current spaces unusable. This minor alteration created a more suitable home for the clients ever expanding family.
Design features include minimal structural intervention, the addition of an extra bedroom, and a dedicated home office to support the clients’ growing business.
SURROUNDED BY WOODLAND
A major feature of this site is the impressive level of screening created by mature trees sustainably managed by the client.
Design features include total privacy, with no neighbouring buildings overlooking the site, no nearby public footpaths, and elevated garden views that remain completely secluded.
LOCALLY SOURCED MATERIALS
The clients site provided a significant proportion of timber needed for the extension. Felled from their site then dried in a local solar powered kiln utilising local craftsmanship.
Design features include exposed structural timber, matching internal cladding, and natural timber flooring for a warm, cohesive interior finish.
