RENOVATING A TRADITIONAL CORNISH FARMHOUSE

Trecobben Farm in Mawnan, South Cornwall was originally converted in 1997 and later redesigned to create a more practical and comfortable family home while restoring the character of the original farmhouse. The project focused on improving the layout and replacing unsuitable cement pointing with more traditional breathable materials better suited to the historic building.

The design carefully balanced modern family living with the preservation of the farmhouse’s original features and rural character. Traditional materials and detailing were used throughout to ensure the property remained sympathetic to its setting and architectural heritage.

By improving functionality, comfort and material performance, the renovation created a home that feels both authentic and better suited to long term living in the Cornish countryside.

We work with homeowners across the county as experienced architects in Cornwall, specialising in farmhouse renovations, heritage properties and sustainable homes designed for modern family life.

NATURAL SWIMMING POOL

The pool design responds to ours clients wish that the pool appears as natural as possible by utilising local materials and skills to create a Cornish hedge along the pool perimeter with a large area of planting.

Design features include chemical-free maintenance, construction with locally sourced materials, and a large landscaped planting area.

COMTEMPORARY GARDEN ROOM

The oak framed garden room was required to create an area with a large amount of glazing to unite the house with the surrounding gardens.

Design features include a green roof, natural sheep’s wool insulation, and panoramic views across the sweeping countryside.
