Liskeard, Cornwall
THE BARN
This redundant barn has been transformed into a beautiful hide away property.
A BARN CONVERSION FOR FAMILY LIVING IN CORNWALL
This project in Liskeard, Cornwall involved the conversion and extension of a charming disused barn to create comfortable living accommodation for both family life and visiting guests. The aim was to retain the character of the original structure while introducing practical modern spaces suited to contemporary living.
The design carefully balanced traditional rural character with improved functionality, natural light and energy performance. The extension created additional flexible accommodation while maintaining a strong connection to the original barn and surrounding landscape.
Materials and detailing were selected to respect the agricultural heritage of the building and ensure the completed conversion felt warm, welcoming and well integrated within its Cornish setting.
We work with clients across the county as experienced architects in Cornwall, designing bespoke barn conversions, renovations and sustainable homes tailored to each site, building and lifestyle.
SECLUDED LOCATION
This idyllic barn is situated in a secluded valley adjoining the river Bedalder which feeds into the river Fowey at Hollow Marsh Wood.
Design features include stunning river and woodland views, natural privacy for both clients and guests, and large windows that create a seamless connection with the surrounding landscape.
LOCALLY SOURCED MATERIALS
Although redundant, the barn was in excellent condition having already been re roofed. With the right materials the design has kept the properties strong agricultural heritage.
Design features include a natural slate roof, timber cladding, and original natural stone walls preserved to maintain the building’s character.
COSY SPACES
The new extension is a contemporary design. Clearly delineating the old from the new whilst the conversion is of great benefit to the existing barn in-terms of its current aesthetics and its long term preservation.
Design features include a one-bedroom layout with an en suite, a cosy living space with a log burner, and a welcoming kitchen-diner.
