After much consideration our clients decided to altar and extend their much loved period farmhouse property to provide additional modest living space. What was once an inward looking relatively dark house has been transformed into a light filled, spacious and modern family home.
REIMAGINING A PERIOD FARMHOUSE
Little Cutmadoc is a contemporary extension and renovation project in Lanhydrock, Mid Cornwall, designed by ARCO2. The project transformed a traditional period farmhouse into a brighter, more open family home better suited to modern living.
The existing house felt dark, enclosed and disconnected from the surrounding landscape. The clients wanted to create a home that introduced more natural light, improved flow between spaces and provided a stronger connection to the garden and countryside beyond.
Careful alterations and contemporary additions helped retain the character of the original farmhouse while introducing open plan living, improved energy efficiency and a calmer, more practical layout for family life.
The result is a warm and welcoming contemporary farmhouse that balances traditional Cornish character with modern design and everyday comfort.
We work with clients across the county as experienced architects in Cornwall, creating bespoke homes, extensions and sustainable architectural projects tailored to each setting and way of life.
Awards and recognition
PERIOD FARMHOUSE
Although relatively small in scale, the alterations have completely transformed this property. Opening it up to its beautiful woodland setting and creating seamless transitions between inside and outside.
Design features include an idyllic woodland setting, a Juliet balcony, and an abundance of natural light.
STUNNING LAKEVIEWS
The alterations have opened up the house to the surrounding gardens maximising views of the adjacent lake and countryside beyond.
Design features include a master bedroom with a private rooftop terrace, a cherished koi carp pond, and a tranquil outdoor space.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES
