A CONTEMPORARY BARN CONVERSION IN PROGRESS
This contemporary barn conversion in Launceston, Cornwall is being carefully developed in phases to transform a historic mill building into a striking and highly individual family home. Phase one has already been completed, with phase two focused on reimagining the dramatic double height mill space into a functional and visually impressive living environment.
The next stage of the project includes the creation of a suspended mezzanine feature, new staircases connecting the bedroom spaces, and extensive landscaping works throughout the courtyard and gardens. The design balances contemporary architecture with the character of the original agricultural buildings, creating a home that feels both distinctive and connected to its setting.
Every element of the project has been carefully considered to combine modern family living with architectural creativity, ensuring the finished home remains practical, spacious and full of character.
We work across the county as experienced architects in Cornwall, specialising in barn conversions, heritage buildings and bespoke contemporary homes.
CHARACTER OF THE BARNS
The barns were previously redundant and in disrepair, without considerate intervention and preservation of these buildings their historic, rustic beauty would be lost forever. As the project progresses we will up date the page with its continuing exciting restoration.
Design features include natural materials chosen to complement the original building, retained trusses and purlins, and maintained bat and bird nesting areas to support local wildlife.
OPEN PLAN SPACES
Natural light is healthy, improves wellbeing and brings more openness to an environment and home.
Design features include the use of natural materials throughout the interior, an airy open living space, and a rustic design aesthetic.
RURAL LOCATION
The stunning rural location of the barns is why the design maintains the appearance of the existing buildings to avoid risk of over domestication in such a beautiful area.
Design features include timber louvres replacing the original profiled metal cladding, unaltered existing hedgerows, and a landscaped courtyard designed primarily as grass and open field.
