Project

Hellesveor Farm near St Ives, Cornwall is a historic hamlet set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that has been carefully adapted into a highly sustainable family enterprise. The project focused on balancing sensitive restoration and environmental responsibility while supporting modern rural living within this unique coastal landscape.

The architectural approach respected the historic character of the site while introducing sustainable design principles that improve energy performance, long term usability and the relationship between the buildings and surrounding countryside. The result is a carefully considered development that combines heritage, sustainability and contemporary family life.

As experienced Architects Cornwall, we work on sustainable rural and heritage projects across Cornwall, creating architecture that responds thoughtfully to landscape, history and modern living.

SENSITIVELY REFURBISHED

The converted farmhouse looks in place with the neighbouring dwellings. Retaining the original roof structure carefully considers the farmhouse’s relationship with the rest of the farm (and holiday business).

Design features include the retention of the original roof structure and timber cladding that blends naturally with the surroundings.

HIGH QUALITY DETAILS

Making the most of the unique interior, a glazed opening was installed in the living room, that itself leads onto the verandah and garden. The living space is bright and makes the most of natural light with south-facing rooflights.

Design features include high-spec finishes, bright and inviting living spaces, and distinctive, characterful design elements.

SUSTAINABLE FEATURES

Not only is the building exemplary in terms of practicality and consciousness, but it is highly efficient. Once poor quality, cement-washed stone is now blanket wrapped in timber frame and super insulated. Some other features follow.

Design features include granite walls that function as a thermal battery, triple-glazed windows, a wind-resistant insulated roof, and outstanding energy efficiency.
