A CONTEMPORARY EXTENSION IN SOUTH CORNWALL
This project in Penryn, South Cornwall introduced a carefully designed contemporary extension that expanded the existing home while maintaining a strong connection to the original building. The new addition created a spacious master bedroom with an en suite, linked to the house by a glazed and slate clad bridge containing a second smaller bedroom.
The design focused on creating light filled modern spaces that felt integrated with the existing property while adding architectural interest and improving functionality. The use of natural materials, glazing and simple contemporary detailing helped the extension sit comfortably within its Cornish setting.
The completed project balances modern living with thoughtful architectural design, creating flexible accommodation that enhances both the character and usability of the home.

CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
The design has been influenced by the varying floor and ground levels on site. Conscious that new additions to existing buildings should be subservient to the original has provoked a low mono pitch roof form.
Design features include a mono-pitched roof, a cantilevered balcony, and pillarless glass folding doors that open the interior to the outdoors.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Materials have been chosen to be sustainable and to harmonise with the existing property. Locally grown they promote the bio diverse of eco systems, low maintenance and pleasant appearance.
Design features include western red cedar cladding, a sedum green roof, and natural stone with slate details that ground the building in its landscape.

Design features include a sleek glass balustrade, additional interior space, and triple glazing throughout for comfort and energy efficiency.
