A FARM BUILDING REIMAGINED IN NORTH CORNWALL
This project in Bodmin, North Cornwall involved the careful conversion of a traditional farm building located on the edge of a historic farmstead. After securing planning and listed building consent, the building was reimagined as a characterful contemporary space that respected the setting and existing architecture.
The design focused on preserving the agricultural character of the structure while introducing comfortable modern living spaces with improved natural light, energy performance and long term durability. Materials and detailing were carefully considered to retain the building’s original identity and strengthen its connection to the surrounding Cornish landscape.
The result is a thoughtful rural conversion that balances heritage, practicality and contemporary design within a sensitive countryside setting.

SYMPATHETIC DESIGN
The three roof lights on the Southern roof were retained as they were essential to the welfare and wellbeing of the inhabitants to have natural daylight entering the building in perpetuity.
Design features include an honest window design that complements the building’s character, an open plan interior layout, and natural sheep’s wool insulation for sustainable comfort.
LOCAL COMMUNITY
The conversion of the Cow House has provided much needed additional accommodation to the local community.
Design features include additional housing located near the town centre, designed to remain in keeping with the character and style of the surrounding area.
18th CENTURY FARMSTEAD
Without this delightful conversion that completes the preservation of the 18th Century Farmstead the building would of slipped further into disrepair.
Design features include a former cow milking barn, now a listed building, showcasing beautiful original stone construction.
