Leading the Way in Sustainable Coastal Homes
At ARCO₂, sustainability isn’t a buzzword — it’s our DNA. As a RIBA Chartered Architects Practice with over two decades of experience, we live and breathe sustainable design. Our talented team of architects, designers, and construction experts are united by a clear purpose: to create beautiful, healthy, low-energy homes that are as unique as the landscapes they belong to.
Specialising in coastal houses, holiday homes, and replacement dwellings, we’ve become recognised leaders in sustainable architecture across Cornwall and the South West. Our approach is grounded in Passive House principles, combining super-insulated, breathable construction with natural local materials, thoughtful detailing, and meticulous site analysis. The result? Homes that are bright, airy, resilient, and uplifting — places that nurture health, wellbeing, and connection with the landscape.

In fact, there aren’t many corners of Cornwall where you won’t come across one of our award-winning designs.
Recent Highlights
Working closely with our sister company, ADD Sustainable Construction, we’ve recently completed a series of homes that perfectly showcase our ethos.

Featherbeds
A Passive House-inspired family home that nestles so naturally into its site it actually enhances the landscape. Designed for a young family of four, Featherbeds is self-sufficient, filled with natural light, and shaped to capture private views of its secluded valley. The design blends Californian, Balinese, and Cornish influences, with natural stone, timber, and lush green roofs coming together to create a truly timeless home.

Waterhouse
Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Waterhouse is a replacement dwelling tailored to the client’s needs while remaining sympathetic to its rural setting. Using a carbon-neutral timber frame insulated with recycled newspaper, this super-insulated home delivers exceptional energy performance while opening up to panoramic estuary and countryside views. Designed with a lifetime home ethos, it’s spacious, light-filled, and carefully crafted to evolve with its owners.

Wayside
Replacing a simple, outdated bungalow, Wayside was designed as a multi-generational home that places health, wellbeing, and social living at its core. The first-floor living spaces capture dramatic west-facing sea views, while the interior balances generous shared areas with private retreats. It’s a warm, sustainable home that brings family together while providing space to breathe.
