Inspiring the Next Generation of Architects
At ARCO₂, we believe that architect work experience plays an important role in inspiring the next generation of designers and shaping the future of the built environment.
This week, we were delighted to welcome a group of aspiring architects to spend a week with our team, gaining first-hand experience of how ideas evolve into completed buildings.
One of the highlights of the week was a visit to one of our current projects, where the students could explore the relationship between architecture, construction and the landscape. Experiencing a building on site offers a valuable perspective that simply can’t be replicated in a classroom. It allows students to appreciate the many decisions that influence a successful project—from responding to the site’s unique characteristics to selecting materials, coordinating construction and considering how the finished building will be experienced by those who use it.
Experiences like architect work experience help students develop a greater understanding of how architecture responds to people, place and the environment.
Throughout every project, our approach combines sustainable architecture with thoughtful design, ensuring buildings are not only visually striking but also energy efficient, comfortable and built to stand the test of time. We hope that by sharing our projects and design philosophy, we can encourage the next generation to think creatively about how architecture can positively influence both people and the environment.
Visits like these also highlight the collaborative nature of the profession. Behind every successful building is a team of architects, engineers, consultants, contractors and skilled craftspeople working together to transform an idea into reality. Understanding this collaborative process is an important part of developing the knowledge and confidence needed for a career in architecture.
As the students begin developing their own concepts during the week, we look forward to seeing the creativity, curiosity and fresh perspectives they bring. Supporting future talent and sharing knowledge is something we’re passionate about, and we’re proud to play a small part in encouraging the architects of tomorrow.
We hope this architect work experience placement encourages the students to continue exploring careers in architecture and sustainable design. Architecture offers a diverse range of career opportunities, with organisations such as the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) providing guidance for aspiring professionals.
