ECOFAB is a complete, prefabricated system of building using strawbales, timber, lambs wool and other reclaimed materials providing one of the most sustainable, organic construction solutions available.
The system has evolved from unique on-site, timber framed, straw bale construction pioneered by ARCO2 Architecture Ltd in 2004 to 2006. It involves the prefabrication of Glulam (Glue laminated softwood) timber frame, straw and lambs wool filled modular panels which form the floors, walls and roof of any building type.
The building system is largely devoid of any waterproof membranes and inorganic materials. This provides an entirely vapour permeable shell (breathing construction) with airtightness of less than 1m3/m2hr @ 50 Pa. The building system has the capacity to meet Passiv Haus standard and the Code for Sustainable Homes Code Level 6.
